ADVANCE YOUR EDUCATION

Looking to develop more specific knowledge about military culture and communities? VSU Online’s Homefront Readjustment for the Armed Forces certificate will help get you there! You’ll gain the skills to interact in community settings where the needs of active duty service members, veterans, and families are met.

Perfect for the undergraduate or working professional, this program is the only undergraduate military cultural competency certificate program in the Commonwealth of Virginia approved by the State Council of Higher Education (SCHEV) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

How it Works:

You’ll be taught by professors who are veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan war, and are licensed social workers and clinical psychotherapists. This certificate program is designed to be completed in less than two years.

What You’ll Learn:

Coursework underscores the importance of understanding human service workers and their roles, while addressing existing and potential challenges, stigmas, mental health concerns, and stressful family dynamics that are all too present in the military and veteran communities.

You’ll be able to identify and facilitate access to essential services and resources for these communities, as well as social support, case management, care coordination, and advocacy.

Costs:

This part-time, fully online degree keeps affordability top of mind.

With pay-as-you-go tuition for both in- and out-of-state students, you’ll pay by the course you take.

Sample costs for a student pursuing a Certificate:
Resident Status Cost Total
Virginia Residents $437/hr $9,177

How it Works:

Veterans, active duty members, and dependents can take any VSU course approved for online delivery. If your desired program is offered through VSU Online, you can complete your degree fully online.

For veterans, it is crucial you obtain your joint service transcript recognized by the American Council of Education. Virginia State University will apply the credits earned through your time in the service towards your VSU degree. Additionally, if you completed courses at other higher education institutions, VSU will apply the credits from the provided transcript.

If you intend to pursue ROTC, you must complete your classes physically on campus.
