VSU Online’s Master of Social Work (MSW) is will prepare you to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.

This program is your pathway to becoming a licensed social worker, equipped to address complex social issues and advocate for change.

How it Works:

Courses are fully online and taught by faculty specially trained in online instruction, maximizing your online experience with more one-on-one instruction.

You’ll take 15 credit hours each semester, totaling 60 credit hours upon degree completion. You will also complete a research project and the clinical field practicum.

Coursework for both pathways meets the professional standards of the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and the Virginia Board of Social Work licensure educational requirements, standards, and regulations. The generalist and core specialized classes meet the accreditation standards of the CWSE.

What You’ll Learn:

With courses such as Cultural Diversity and Social Welfare Policy & Practice and Human Behavior in the Social Environment: Poverty, Oppression, & Trauma, you’ll develop cultural competence and ethical, empathetic practices within the social work profession.

Classes will prepare you to address, systematically and strategically, the well-being of traumatized individuals while promoting human rights and social and economic justice through community engagement, advocacy, and collaborative scientific inquiry. You’ll graduate with the leadership skills to impact this industry locally, nationally, and globally.

Graduates will succeed in careers at social service agencies and educational, health, and behavioral health agencies, organizations, and institutions.

This part-time, fully online degree keeps affordability top of mind.

With pay-as-you-go tuition for both in- and out-of-state students, you’ll pay by the course you take.
